PC Maintenance - Maintain the harmony between
you and your PC
Computers are robust machines that can operate under test
conditions. However, leaving both the hardware and software
to fend for themselves against threats real and virtual may
adversely affect its performance. To ensure that your system
is in tip top shape, make it a point to carry out weekly
maintenance. These are some of the ways you can make your PC
faster, error free and more secure:
Defrag.
Despite the emergence of various types of storage media,
hard drive is still every PC user's main repository of data.
Every time we start our computer, the files get copied,
moved or deleted. This routine data scattered around the
disk. As a result, the data storage device reader has a
plenty of time to join together related files, which affects
overall system performance. You can save your hard drive by
defragging it a long time. The process involves the
redistribution of files so that the team will have an easy
time tracking, especially those belonging to a program.
No need to buy a third party defragmenter. If you're using
Windows, then all you have to do is open it. But before
that, it is advisable to run scan disk first. This program
checks the drive and corrects errors. Windows also has this
already. If you are using Windows 95/98/ME, you can access
it by clicking Start • Programs • Accessories • System Tools
• ScanDisk. For Windows NT/2000/XP, select My Computer on
the desktop. • Select Properties Tools. • Select error
checking on “Check Now”, and then a dialog on the screen
appeared. Choose two check boxes and click Start to begin
scanning.
After you have finished scanning the disk for errors, you
can now run the disk defragmenter. To open, click Start •
Programs • Accessories • System Tools • Defragmenter. Select
the drive you want to defragment. The rest is automatic.
Before running the disk defragmenter, make sure you are not
running other applications, including antivirus, as this may
disturb the flow or arrangement of data.
Backup.
System or hard drive crashes sometimes inevitable. This can
often prove very costly as a result of accidents in the loss
of data. To avoid the hassle of having to repeat everything
you've done, back up your files regularly. This can really
save time, money and sanity.
Update security programs.
Your antivirus or anti-malware programs can not rely solely
on the definition of a virus or spyware that is included in
list. Malicious programs are broadcast on the Internet every
day. It is therefore imperative that your security suite
from the list will be updated. Updates or patches also
connect the holes in the program that were not detected or
corrected by the manufacturer when it was first published.
Delete temporary files and unwanted.
Getting rid of useless temporary files is easy. Simply open
Internet Explorer, and then click Tools • Internet Options •
General (tab). Choose the appropriate options or buttons for
the removal of unwanted files.
Undertake these four maintenance procedures, which release a
large amount of disk space and equipment replacement
saturation unnecessary. The result of more clean and smooth
appears as is the increased productivity of the department
to spend less time in loading and running programs that you
need.
