A computer becomes a zombie after being infected by a botnet and performed the instructions given by the remote computer without your knowledge or permission. Botnet controllers often take control of the infected computer via IRC (Internet Relay Chat) programs. Botnets are used to do this through the network bandwidth of the user or blocking processing resources of your unit. These attacks against competitors are used for commercial purposes.

Spam and traffic monitoring.

A botnet uses TCP / IP protocol proxy SOCKS infected computer for various networking activities. For example, use the infected PC on the network to send bulk spam.

Packet inhalation.

Botnets also act as sniffers intercepts that puts sensitive data and exchange of infected computers. These data often include usernames and passwords, which are used by botnet controllers for nefarious purposes.

Identity theft.

Botnets obtain sensitive personal information so as legitimate businesses, groups or individuals who appear to have a real need or validity of such data.

Pay Per Click systems.

Botnets can be used to automate clicks and financial benefits in a pay-per-click system. This is accomplished by giving instructions to the infected computer, clicking on the site specified automatically when the browser is activated.
